Juniper Mountain

 *** May 30 - June 4, 2024 ***

This retreat will be at Juniper Mountain Lodge, a working ranch in the Yellowstone Teton territory at the heart of the Sands Wildlife Management Area. Artists, Daniel & Kara Hidalgo, are your hosts and will be offering guidance as well as cooking for you. There are breathtaking views of the Grand Teton mountain range to the east, Centennial Mountain to the north and the world-famous St. Anthony Sand Dunes to the south. This is a stay & play retreat with painting sessions happening around this working livestock ranch.  Our retreat will be happening during the lambing season.  Along with sheep, the Ranch's horses pasture just outside the Lodge gate.  If we want to go on a painting safari, the ranch hands will let us use the ranch trucks and can direct us to the bison and elk herds on this 12,000 acre ranch.  Egin Lakes and many more unique views of the Sand Dunes are a few minutes down the road.

WHAT IS INCLUDED? Lodging (some private rooms, some shared rooms, each with their own bathroom), all meals, and bus transportation to painting locations.  Participants are responsible for their own transportation to/from the airport (Idaho Falls, Idaho is 40 min. away or Jackson Hole, WY is 1.5 hrs away) and to/from the lodge.

SMALL GROUP RETREAT (not a workshop). There are usually only about 9 - 14 participants total, including the leaders.

INSTRUCTION
There will be NO formal lectures or instruction. This is mostly about people painting together for camaraderie and sharing the experience of creating art on location, en plein air.

ITINERARY
In the morning we may drive to a location on or near the sand dunes to paint.  Lunch is provided as a brown-bag on location (unless we are painting from the lodge, then we'll be in the kitchen) with an informal 'show and tell' of our morning paintings. Then, we'll do quick stops at one or more locations on our way back to the lodge for photo reference or memory studies. Evenings are on your own while we prepare and serve a dinner.
